Can you summon a sea serpent in 'Sea of Thieves' on Epic Games to guard your ship?

Sea of Thieves’ ships are vulnerable to raids, and a sea serpent guardian adds security. Do you need to place 10 'Sea Serpent Scales' around your ship (collected from defeated serpents) and recite a pirate incantation? Does the summoned serpent coil around the ship, attack any raider who gets within 10m, and spit venom that slows their boat?
