How to Transfer Switch Games to MicroSD Card: Free Up System Storage

Transferring games to a microSD card frees up your Switch’s internal storage. Insert the microSD card into the console, then go to 'System Settings' > 'Data Management' > 'Move Data Between System/microSD Card'. Select 'Move to microSD Card' and choose the games or apps you want to transfer. The transfer time depends on the game size—large games like 'Elden Ring' may take 10-15 minutes. You can also set new downloads to install directly to the microSD card: go to 'System Settings' > 'Data Management' > 'Download Location' and select 'microSD Card'. Note that save data stays on the system storage, not the microSD card, so you won’t lose progress during transfers.
