Playing physical Switch games offline is seamless, no setup required. Simply insert the game cartridge into the Switch—physical games don’t rely on Wi-Fi to run, so you can play them anywhere, even without internet. Save data is stored on the console or microSD card, so your progress is safe offline. Note that some physical games require a one-time online update to access all content (e.g., day-one patches for bug fixes), but the core gameplay is still available offline. DLC for physical games must be downloaded while online, but once installed, it works offline. Multiplayer modes for physical games (e.g., local co-op in 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe') work offline, but online multiplayer requires Wi-Fi. When traveling, pack your favorite physical games—they’re perfect for offline entertainment on planes, trains, or road trips.
